Well I tried to give this one a miss BUT I've got into open beta (which starts tomorrow) so I'll let you know whether it smells of roses or stinks of poop! ...............................and there I was swearing to myself that I would never play a wierdy beardy pointy eared MMO again Wink

(my excuse being that I played Warhammer and Warhammer fantasy roleplay in my yoof Razz)

Some positive things here

Quote:
With Warhammer Online, developers Mythic have finally created an MMO worthy of threatening Blizzard. With its fun (and funny) gameplay, support for very low end PC's, innovative new systems (Public Quests) and its focus on massive RVR (pvp), Warhammer Online is a game that will keep you entertained for a long long time.

With 20 different classes to choose from, and 6 different races, across 3 massive lands, WAR really is everywhere, as they say. Within the first half an hour of gameplay you will be involved in Balanced PVP action, against possibly hundreds of other people.

Warhammer Online is based on the Table Top game from Games Workshop, a product that has been in the making for 25 years, and which influenced Blizzard when designing Warcraft. It's made by a company who are famous for their PVP MMO's, and they bring their knowledge of engaging gameplay with them.

BUT... this is not a game for "hardcore" raiders or those who like to grind XP/Coin all day to get the best gear. It's very much a solo friendly PVE game, and a balanced and fair PVP game. The best gear can just be bought when you hit the right level (of which there are only 40) for a few silver, and all quests are easy to complete on your own.

It's also not for the player who likes to beat on low level players. Try to enter a lower tier area in War, and you will be turned into a chicken, and be able to be killed in one hit!

This is really aimed at the casual player, the player who is married with kids, the player who has a job, and the player who does things other than game all day. But, in doing so, it creates an extremely balanced, fun, and exciting play style.

It's a great game, what more can I say?

- How do I know? Closed Beta Tester for some months, Preview Weekend player, and Elder Tester (meaning access to the latest Open code).

I really had high expectations and banked on AoC after waiting for it for a couple of years to be ultimately disappointed with it. With this I have no expectations so it may surprise me Smile

Lol! what can I say? The WaR beta access is a complete mess.

Basically their database failed and their euro website also folded under the pressure of opening the doors for registration at 8.30 am on the day that beta was meant to start.......

At one point I had the "You have succesfully created an account" page, but i have had no confirmation email, so it looks like, if i can be arsed, that i will try and register again when it all goes "live" later on this afternoon. Even the CEO of GOA felt compelled to issue an apology.

I know it's beta but this is definitely not a good start.

Quote:
Warhammer Online beta struggles in Europe

GOA, the European publisher and operator of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, has issued a public apology for the false start to its open beta test yesterday.

Although servers have opened, and closed beta testers have been able to enter the new phase without any problems, account registration and authentication for new players is not working.

"I rarely address players directly, but I wanted to write you as too few of you have been able to access the open beta today," said GOA's chief executive, Ghislaine Le Rhun, on the European WAR site.

"We have not yet solved the issue of saturated Open Beta key activations that we're currently experiencing," Le Rhun said. "I am sincerely sorry for this, and I understand all the frustration the situation has spawned.

"Today was a dark day," Le Rhun continued. "We expected a massive influx of players, but reality was even harsher. I personally commit that we will communicate to you as clearly as possible on the resolution of these current issues."

In a previous post, it was explained that "serious problems" with the authentication system, "combined with an exceptional amount of traffic and a fault which was not identified during the extensive tests," had limited access to only a handful of new open beta testers. However, the performances of the servers, patcher and downloader for WAR's open beta were all "satisfactory".

The authentication system is expected to be fixed "late Monday morning", with an update promised mid-morning.

24 hrs after it should have gone live...

Quote:
As we told you in previous news, the account validation system has been taken offline while our technical teams work on it. A lot of work has been done and some of the hardware on the database server has been changed as well as a lot of software improvements and our teams are still working hard to prepare the systems.

As a result, we will launch a new code registration page today at 16:00 CET. This new page will feature a delay between registration and account validation but you will still receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of creating your account.

If you had already created an account yesterday and have a validation email then you will still be able to follow the link from that email after 16:00 today to validate your account, if you do not have an email then you should create a new account as described above.

Thank you for your patience.

Yeh gonna give this a go to as i try pretty much everything but from what i understand from a friend on the beta it was still very buggy and he believed that the guys running the show were completely unprepared for a large broadcast of the game soon. LOL how right was he.

Aye. It is still fubar for europe (Being handled by the French) but surprise surprise the USA side of things is working (Being handled by the yanks) ..............

AoC was definitely the smoothest beta and release I have been part of. Shame it got worse rather than better ;/

That does seem to be the common opinion of them.

The thing is I want to give it a fair crack. If the farcical release and registration of the Euro beta is the shape of things to come, my brain says to get a yanky copy Wink

From what I read on the web GOA all but killed the Euro DAoC servers with their ineptness causing most Euro players to port over to US run servers.
